Visit Japan Web invites you to explore the Kobe Port Tower, a prominent feature in the port city of Kobe. It underwent temporary closure for renovation from late 2009 to April 28th, 2010. It is currently closed for renovation and seismic retrofitting since September 27th, 2021.

The tower, designed by the Nikken Sekkei Company, is located in Chuo-ku, Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The entire facility underwent maintenance starting in November 2009. It was closed to the public for refurbishment two months later. It reopened for the sightseeing deck on March 19th, 2010.By April 28th, 2010, it completed the installation of 7000 LED lighting equipment with 40 lighting effects.

The Kobe Port Tower stands at a height of 108 meter. It consists of 8 layers designed in the shape of a Tsuzumi, a Japanese drum. It is the first tower that has a pipe lattice structure. There are 32 red steel staves, symbolizing vessels returning to the shore.

The tower has two sections: the ground floors and the sightseeing sections, with three and five floors respectively. The ground floor primarily houses souvenir shops and restaurants, while the second floor features ticket office for the sightseeing. The third floor serves as the elevator exit as well as a display area. The sightseeing section offers an aerial view from the first floor, located 75 meters above the ground. It consists of an observatory floor, a 360-degree rotating café on the third floor and sightseeing decks on the remaining floors. The fourth floor provides stunning views of Awajishima and Osaka Bay. The fifth floor offers views of Mount Rokko and Kansai International Airport.
