Visit Japan Web Kyoto Tower

Visit Japan Web invites you to explore Kyoto Tower, the tallest structure in Kyoto. It is a rare modern iconic landmark in the city known for its ancient temples and shrines. The tower came into use in 1964, the same year as the opening of the shinkansen and the Tokyo Olympics.
A viewing platform situated 100 meters above ground offers a full 360-degree view of Kyoto. On clear days, it extends as far as Osaka. Sitting on top of a typical commercial building, Kyoto Tower houses souvenir shops, restaurants, and a hotel. The public bath in the basement closed permanently at the end of June 2021.
At the tower’s base is a 4-story building called FootTown. The first floor features the Aquarium Gallery, a reception hall, the 400-person-capacity “Tower Restaurant”, a FamilyMart convenience store, and a souvenir shop. However, the main attractions on this floor are the three elevators that provide direct access to the Main Observatory. The second floor primarily serves as a food and shopping area, with five standalone restaurants and a food court consisting of four restaurants, including McDonald’s and Pizza-La.
The third and fourth levels of FootTown accommodate multiple tourist attractions. The third level houses the Guinness World Records Museum Tokyo. There are life-size figures, photo panels and memorabilia showcasing authenticated records by the Guinness Book. The Tokyo Tower Wax Museum, established in 1970, exhibits wax figures imported from London. In addition, there is Gallery DeLux, a lounge and specialty stores on this floor. The Tokyo Tower’s Trick Art Gallery can be found on the fourth and topmost level, displaying optical illusions as well as interactive paintings.
Furthermore, the rooftop of FootTown building hosts a small amusement park with various rides and live performances tailored for children.
