Visit Japan Web invites you to explore the Nakasu area, the entertainment hub of Fukuoka. After sunset, the area becomes bustling with restaurants, food stalls, and individuals seeking nighttime amusement.
Positioned as a small island within the city, Nakasu is bordered by the Nakagawa River to the west and the Hakatagawa River to the east. This compact region is densely packed with numerous dining establishments and bars.
Of particular interest are the evening food stalls, which commence operations at approximately 6 p.m. and operate until midnight. A portion of these stalls is located in the southern section of Nakasu along the Nakagawa River, operating throughout the year. Additionally, Nakasu and its vicinity host several of Fukuoka’s prominent artistic attractions, including the Hakataza Theatre and the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, both conveniently connected to Nakasu-Kawabata Station.
Located to the southeast of Nakasu, Canal City offers one of Fukuoka’s most distinctive shopping experiences, featuring an architectural marvel. This expansive shopping complex hosts a daily music and light show around the fountain. In close proximity to Canal City is Kushida-jinja, a highly respected shrine in Fukuoka. The shrine grounds house an elaborate, 13-meter-tall float used in the annual Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival. Adjacent to the shrine is the entrance to the Kawabata Street shopping arcade.
Another Yamakasa float is in the Kawabata Shopping Arcade, where the shops offer a sharp contrast to the numerous other shops in the heart of Nakasu. Many of these shops specialize in selling traditional Japanese products, clothing, art, and sweets. It is advisable to visit the arcade during the day as most shops close in the evening.
