Visit Japan Web invites you to explore the Ryuzu Falls, located in the Okunikko region of Nikko. They are renowned for their exquisite beauty. “Ryuzu,” meaning “dragon’s head”,aptly describes the base of the falls, which split into two by a massive rock, resembling the head of a dragon.

Considered one of the “Three Famous Falls” of Okunikko, along with the Yudaki Falls and the Kegon Falls, they are about 10 meters wide and flow for a length of 210 meters over volcanic rock. Despite their smaller scale, the white cascades of the Ryuzu Falls are very picturesque. Especially during the early summer when surrounded by azalea flowers and in the autumn framed by red and gold fall foliage.

The Ryuzu Falls are situated on the northern side of Lake Chuzenji. A viewing platform in front of the falls offers complimentary access. Adjacent to the viewing platform, there is a souvenir shop that sells local crafts and food products.

Additionally, there is a simple restaurant called the Ryuzu Tea House. It offers a variety of delicious local rural dishes such as ozoni soup with rice cakes and wild mountain vegetables, udon and soba noodles. Craft beers and local sake varieties are also available at the restaurant.

The restaurant features counter seating in front of a window with a splendid view of the waterfalls. Guests can continue admiring the twin torrents while enjoying their meal and drinks. Both the food and drinks offered here are of excellent quality. It is an ideal spot to take a break before moving on to your next sightseeing destination.
