Visit Japan Web Sapporo Salmon Museum

Visit Japan Web invites you to explore Sapporo Salmon Museum. It provides an ideal opportunity for children to gain a hands-on understanding of nature. It features exhibits, models, and reading and video materials covering various species of salmon and related fishes. Don’t miss the chance to visit the underground observation room for a full view of mature salmon.
Throughout the year, there are interactive activities designed to educate children about fish. They can release salmon fry into the river in spring and catch them for observation in summer. The main building predominantly showcases the museum’s numerous exhibits, displaying around 20 species of salmon and related fishes throughout the year.
Visitors can further enhance their knowledge of spawning behavior and spawning beds through dioramas with taxidermy models in the Exhibit Hall. Regularly shown videos highlight the Come Back Salmon Movement and efforts to conserve the Toyohira River salmon.
The Aquarium Exhibit Room showcases young salmon and other related fish species. Visitors can also view fish that inhabit the Toyohira River source area and are uncommon elsewhere in Japan. For example, Dolly Varden trout, Atlantic salmon, lake trout and cutthroat trout.
Salmon eggs are gathered, fertilized, and hatched in the Hatching Room. During spawning season, visitors can observe the process through glass.
The Underground Observation Room displays salmon and related fish based on their size. The displayed species change with the seasons.
From winter to spring, visitors can witness the groups of young salmon. In the fall, they can see the adult salmon.
