Visit Japan Web Subashiri Trail

Visit Japan Web invites you to explore Subashiri Trail on the eastern side of the mountain. It is the second easiest to access by public transportation from Tokyo after the Fuji Subaru Line Trail. Buses serve the station daily during the climbing season from mid-July until mid-September. They run on weekends and national holidays from May through October as well.
Like the Gotemba Trail, the Subashiri Trail is far less developed than the Fuji Subaru Line Trail, consisting of only a parking lot, toilets, and two small shops and restaurants. Coin lockers are not available. The trail is reached by a winding road through Mount Fuji‘s forests, which gets closed to private vehicles during the peak of the climbing season when there are shuttle buses between a parking lot at the base of the mountain and the 5th station. The road also gets closed during winter, usually from late November to late April.
The initial segment of the Subashiri Trail is situated below the treeline and passes through a forest. This trail tends to be less congested compared to other paths leading up the mountain. It merges with the Yoshida Trail around the 8th station, where it can become very crowded on busy days. The climb from the Subashiri Trail generally takes about 5-8 hours, while the descent takes about 3-5 hours. It’s important to note that the Subashiri Trail, at an altitude of 1950 meters above sea level, is a few hundred meters lower than the Fuji Subaru Line and Fujinomiya Trail.
