Visit Japan Web invites you to explore Tsuruma Park, located in the heart of Nagoya. Visitors can unwind, engage in activities and admire the captivating cherry blossoms in full bloom here. It serves as an exquisite fusion of Western and Eastern design elements. There’s a European-style garden, rose gardens, alongside traditional Japanese-style gardens with ponds and a calamus garden.
The park holds a significant historical legacy, dating back to 1909. It was the venue for the 10th Kansai Area Prefectural Union Joint Exposition in 1910. Notably, it boasts a grand water fountain and a music band gazebo. They’re both constructed in the fashionable European style of the early 20th century.
The fountain tower adorned the main square of the venue and has since become one of the park’s symbols. Engineer Teiji Suzuki designed the tower, combining Eastern and Western styles with Roman marble pillars and rock structures. The tower was temporarily removed due to construction on Nagoya Municipal Subway line 3, but it was restored in 1977. Designated as a Municipal Cultural Property in 1986, the fountain tower holds significant historical value.
Tsuruma Park is famous for its profusion of cherry blossom trees. Every spring, from late March to early April, visitors can partake in the cherry-blossom viewing hanami festival. They can indulge in eating, drinking, and admiring the beautiful flowers in full bloom. The park also hosts various festivals throughout the year, such as the Flower Festival and the Autumn Festival.
In addition to providing a playground for children, the park also offers a baseball field. It is highly popular among joggers and Pokemon Go enthusiasts.
